A Jam-Packed Programme of Events for This Year's Europe Day

With 2024 marking 20 years of EU membership for Malta, Europe Day will commemorate this iconic moment in the country's history with an array of activities.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to the forecast inclement weather on Thursday 9 May, the main outdoor celebrations of Europe Day in Valletta, as well as the European Village at the University of Malta, have been postponed to Friday 10 May. The EPAS quiz will be held indoors at the conference hall at Europe House on Thursday 9 May. The Europe Day event in Victoria, Gozo, on Saturday 11 May remains unaffected.

On 9 May each year, EU countries celebrate their membership with a day of festivities marking the progress achieved since every member state joined the EU. This year is a special one for Malta, with its accession to the EU having taken place 20 years ago, on 1 May 2004. Accordingly, our Europe Day programme is brimming with the staple activities you've come to expect, such as the public set-up in front of the national Parliament building, the EPAS quiz, etc., in addition to a unique touch for the 20th anniversary of Malta's EU membership.

We'll be partnering with Servizzi Ewropej f'Malta (SEM), as well as a host of other EU agencies and entities for the main event in Valletta on the morning of Thursday 9 May. Our stand will offer information for citizens, especially on the European elections in June, and handy, branded trinkets that you can acquire when snapping a photo at our checkpoint.

JEF Malta will, as per tradition, be organising its annual European Village at the University of Malta Quadrangle, from 9:00 till 15:00. Multiple stands showcasing different European cultures and ongoing EU initiatives both on- and off-campus will adorn the outdoor area.

Finally, the Gozo edition of Europe Day will be held on Saturday 11 May at Villa Rundle Gardens, in Victoria. Our office will have its own stand among a variety of stalls with diverse offerings in a pleasant atmosphere where we can chat one-to-one with citizens. The event will spotlight the regional focus and funding Gozo benefits from as one of the most peripheral geographical spots in the EU.
