On a warm July evening, the European Parliament Liaison Office (EPLO) in Malta welcomed young participants and special guests to a lively event titled “Engaging with Youths: The EYE and Beyond”, celebrating the European Youth Event (EYE) 2025 and the growing connection between the European Parliament and young people across Malta and Gozo.

Starting the discussion in the EPLO conference hall, and letting the conversations flow on the terrace, the event brought together former EYE participants, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), EPAS Junior Ambassadors, together.eu volunteers, and content creators to reflect on their experiences and discuss the many opportunities the EU offers young citizens.

Opening Remarks and MEP Contributions

The evening opened with a warm welcome by moderator Sephora Francalanza, who introduced the two distinguished guests joining the discussion: MEP Peter Agius and MEP Thomas Bajada.

MEP Bajada, the youngest Maltese Member of the European Parliament, shared insights into his participation at EYE 2025 in Strasbourg and how the experience resonated with his journey in public service. He stressed how it has to be the young generation to bring and inspire hope in today’s fast-paced world.

MEP Agius spoke about his continued engagement with Maltese youth through study visits and educational outreach, emphasising the importance of making the European Parliament accessible to younger generations.

The Head of EPLO Dr Mario Sammut then gave an overview of the role of the EPLO and how 2024, being an election year, saw a spike in youth engagement through multiple channels. He mentioned how young people and local content creators alike were essential in helping EPLO spread the word about the importance for everyone to use their vote.

Voices from EYE 2025

A highlight of the evening was a short video capturing moments from EYE 2025 and other EPLO youth activities, including EPAS, Euroscola and the Leadership Academy.

Guests then heard directly from Maltese participants:

•    Celeste tan Panza, EPAS ambassador and together.eu volunteer, reflected on how her journey through EPAS led to her selection for EYE and deepened her understanding of civic engagement.

•    Jean Borg and Kyle Vella, both together.eu volunteers, shared their takeaways from the event and spoke about the importance of EU initiatives in empowering young voices.

Content Creators and Civic Influence

The panel also welcomed Taryn Mamo Cefai and Monique Farrugia, local content creators who joined the Maltese delegation in Strasbourg. They shared their experience using storytelling and digital platforms to engage young audiences and promote EU values.

Their message to other young creators was clear: platforms like EYE allow for authentic dialogue, international networking, and building momentum for local activism.

Youth Programmes and Opportunities

The final segment of the evening focused on the programmes available for youth through the European Parliament. Elaine Cordina, EPLO’s Public Relations Officer, presented the together.eu community and how young people can get involved even without formal programme participation.

The Head of EPLO Dr Mario Sammut walked the audience through the EPAS and Euroscola programmes, explaining who can participate and how these initiatives provide unique learning opportunities and a gateway to European civic life.
Closing and Networking

The evening closed with a relaxed networking session on the Europe House terrace—an opportunity for participants to mingle, exchange ideas, and foster new connections over refreshments.
