EPLO Valletta at the 2026 Malta Diversity and Inclusion Charter Conference
Dr Mario Sammut, Head of EPLO Malta, addressed the issue of disinformation at the third Malta Diversity and Inclusion Charter Conference, held at Xara Lodge, on the 26 May 2026.
Speaking at the third Malta Diversity and Inclusion Charter Conference, held at Xara Lodge, on the 26 May 2026, Dr Mario Sammut, Head of EPLO Malta, addressed the issue of disinformation, reflecting EPLO’s Disinformation Exhibition that was simultaneously on display during the conference.
Referring to the thought-provoking installation on one of the most pressing challenges facing democracy today, he noted that “in a world that is increasingly inter-connected, where information spreads fast and there is so much of it that it is difficult to digest, it is easy to be misinformed, disinformed and even manipulated by what we see and read online, on the media and social media. The European Parliament has been the co-author of legislation, such as the Digital Services Act, that is aimed to fight disinformation, amongst others. Beyond legislation, it also combats disinformation through its promotion of media literacy, support for fact-checkers and raising awareness though initiatives like this exhibition.”
This year’s edition of the Malta Diversity and Inclusion Charter Conference, themed ‘Beyond the Bias: AI, Neurodiversity and Building Inclusive Workplaces,’ focused on strategies and conversations that support meaningful and lasting change. Continuing its commitment to promote diversity and inclusion, the conference brought together organisations to discuss practical ways of building more inclusive workplaces and communities in Malta.
Two inspiring keynote speeches were delivered by Ms Emma Holton, a feminist economist who focused on much-needed culture shifts at the workplace and beyond and by Dr Gege Gatt, an AI and IT law specialist who detailed the link between AI and Inclusivity.
